Defiance: Season 2
Defiance returns for its second run, and picks up where the first ended. The season focuses on Irisa and the Votan Goddess she has now given herself over too. What are the plans of the Votan Goddess and what does it mean for Defiance and earth as a whole?
For a show that had so much potential in the first season it had plenty of options for its second outing. The start of the season however is a lot slower than I would have liked. The second season as a whole suffers from the over-focus on Irisa’s story arc and it seems to neglect the tensions left from the war at times and miss some of what season 1 built.
Where this season does succeed however is exploring the plight of the other characters, ensuring all characters have their moments and get to tell their sides of the story. The ensemble cast is put to much better use this season while other characters break out of their shells and old favourites still entertain.
Overall this season is not as good as I had hoped for. It’s still engaging and an interesting show, don’t get me wrong, but here’s hoping season 3 can hit the stride the show needs.
