Buffy: Meet the Scooby Gang
Buffy Anne Summers is not an ordinary girl – the Slayer, the main character of the series. She is a very lively young woman, played by Sarah Michelle Gellar. Buffy often hides how lonely she is, and how much she longs for a normal life. She attracts audiences of both genders – to the males she is an attractive woman, to the females she is a strong, funny role-model with an attitude.
Angel is the eye candy for the females – The typical “Tall, dark and handsome” guy. He is a key character until he leaves the series at the end of season 3. He is an odd character – a vampire (blood-sucking monster), but a good guy, due to his soul being returned by gypsies. He steals Buffy’s heart, and their romantic love scenes are often tear-jerkers. Angel was such a successful character that after his 3 years in the Buffyverse, he was given his own series, lasting 5 years, titled (very original!) “Angel”.
Alexander "Xander" LaVelle Harris is a funny, strong character, and though he possesses no “special powers” or abilities like the majority of the other members of the group, he has saved them on numerous occasions. He is not very academic, but his comedy makes up for this. Xander and Willow were close friends even before Buffy moved to Sunnydale, and have been in a close relationship before. He is a loyal friend to the group, and the series wouldn’t have been the same without him.
Willow Rosenburg (Played by Alyson Hannigan, “American Pie”, “How I met your Mother”), starts the series as a typical, bookish schoolgirl who always does as she’s told. However, when she starts to touch upon Witchcraft, this all changes. As the seasons progress, she confesses to being a lesbian, and grows in power, but begins to become addicted to magic, and after the death of her girlfriend attempts to destroy the world. She has a pivotal role in the last season, when she recovers from her problems and changes the entire world for the better.
Spike (A.k.a William the Bloody) got his nickname from the love of torturing his victims with railroad spikes. He was called William the Bloody because of his “Bloody awful poetry”. Spike was evil at heart, until somewhere along his journey he fell for Buffy, had his soul restored and fought the good fight. He died saving the world, and took the whole of Sunnydale down with him.
Rupert Giles is the knowledge behind the Scooby gang. He is the school librarian but he has some dark secrets. He is a father figure to Buffy, and was her Watcher (Trainer, in simple terms), until he was fired for refusing to put her in danger during a training session. Despite his removal of watcher duties, he was still a great help to the team, he continued helping Buffy until she was fully trained, and helped Willow learn to control her magic in his home country, England.
