Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Monsters, SFX and Stunts
Special effects play a huge part in Buffy, from magical spells to inter-dimensional portals, Buffy has it all. Some shows from the same era are known for there repetitive use of similar effects, but Buffy excels in using a variety of completely unique visual displays for its viewers. The effects range in colour, size, shape and intensity, depending on the strength of the subject. Dark-Veiny-Willow is a personal favourite!
Where would Buffy be without its make-up and costumes? (Nowhere is the answer, if you didn’t already know!) The make-up team introduced a new image of a Vampire which is so believable it can be extremely frightening. Both make-up and costume contribute to Buffy’s major themes, and is probably an important reason why many people love the show.
Another huge part of Buffy is, quite obviously, Stunts. The actors (and their stunt doubles) are extremely well trained and compose their stunts so well you almost want to jump around the room yourself! The most effective stunts are in the last episode, I don’t want to spoil it for those who haven’t seen it, but those who have will understand – that must have taken some work!
